Continental has opened its engine components factory

Avtostat – Continental has opened the engine components factory it has constructed in Kaluga. The facility, which was established with an investment of €24 million, right next to factories such as: Volkswagen, Volvo and PSA in Kaluga-Yug Industrial Park, has the capacity to manufacture 1 million engine control units, 500,000 fuel supply units and 500,000 fuel rail systems annually.

The new Automotive facility, which was completed in just 16 months, occupies an area of 7,200 square metres of utility space and is equipped with state-of-the-art production technology.

“With the new plant, we have increased our production capacity in Russia, and that will enable us to serve customers in Russia on a long-term basis with products manufactured in Russia. This is a further strategic step to positioning ourselves in the rapidly growing Russian automotive market as one of the world’s leading supplier of electronics,” said José Avila, Member of the Executive Board of Continental and President of the Powertrain Division.

As one may remember, Continental had also established a tyre factory in Kaluga in 2013, with an investment of €240 million. In addition, the Continental affiliate ContiTech, a facility which manufactures air conditioning and hydraulic steering wheel systems, has commenced operations recently. Continental employs a total number of 1300 people throughout its facilities in Russia.
