Volkswagen Group Rus celebrates the 10th year of local production in Russia

RusAutoNews.Com – The local production of Volkswagen in Russia began on a large scale ten years ago. In just two years’ time, in 2009, full production started in the plant, including stamping, welding, painting and assembly.

The production of EA211 series 1.6 MPI engines was launched at the facility in September 2015. The maximum annual production capacity of the factory is 150,000 engines.

A new body shop was established in the Kaluga plant on 12,000 m2 area in November 2016 and the painting and assembly shops have been updated for the production of the new VW Tiguan.

“Local production is a key part of our long-term strategy in Russia. Consistent investments in the development of production, products and employees have turned us into one of the leaders of Russian automotive industry. We have encouraged the development of local component manufacturers, expanded our presence in the Russian market and started exporting our vehicles. We intend to take this success further in the new decade and express our gratitude to our colleagues and partners for their productive efforts” – said the CEO of Volkswagen Group Rus Marcus Osegovich.

VW Tiguan, VW Polo and Skoda Rapid are currently manufactured at the Kaluga plant of the company and Skoda Octavia, VW Jetta and Skoda Yeti at the production site in Nizhny Novgorod.
