Volkswagen will manufacture Tharu crossovers in Russia


 

RBK.- The new compact crossover of Volkswagen, which is manufactured on the basis of Skoda Karoq, will be sold in Russia under the name of Tharu. The relevant statement has been made during the presentation of the automobile in Argentina. The new vehicle will be manufactured at the GAZ plant in Nizhny Novgorod. The assembly of the crossover will start in 2020.

The vehicle is available in China with a 116 hp 1.2 litres petrol engine, as well as a 150 hp 1.4 litres capacity. The model range also includes a 2.0 litres 190 hp version. The engines are combined with a seven-speed robotic gearbox with two clutches. The vehicles are only available in front-wheel drive versions.

Volkswagen has sold 9551 automobiles in Russia in April, according to AEB data. The figure is equivalent to a 7% year-on-year growth.

Polo has become the most popular VW model in Russia last month, with a sales figure of 5665 units.
