Renault is discussing localisation of engine and gearbox production for Arkana crossovers

Finmarket.- The French car manufacturer Renault is working on the localisation process of engine and gearbox production for Arkana crossovers in Russia, which will be manufactured at the Moscow plant of the company, as stated by the expert of Renault products in the Eurasian region: Anatoli Kalitseev during the presentation of the model.

“The automobile is already under production at our plant in Moscow. The annual production capacity of the plant is over 200,000 automobiles. We will produce as much as we can sell in due course, never announcing the planned production figures beforehand. The localisation rate of the production of the automobile, on the other hand, is over 60% even at this preliminary stage. The components in question are all the body parts and the vast majority of interior parts” – Kalitseev said, adding that Renault uses not only Russian production parts, but also parts made from Russian raw materials. According to Kalitseev, the company expects to increase the level of localisation of Renault Arkana to 70% in the near future.

As stated by Renault, the TCe engines are imported from Spain and the Jatco CVT-gearboxes from Mexico. “The plans to localise the aforementioned components are our current topic” – Kalitseev said, noting that when and where these components will be localised has not yet been decided upon. “The whole issue is at a discussion process at the moment” – he added.

Renault Arkana is manufactured on the basis of the new generation of a SUV-platform, which includes a new engine, joint developed by the Renault-Nissan alliance and Daimler.

As told by Renault Group Senior Vice-President and the Director of Eurasian Region: Nicolas Maure to journalists previously, Renault will launch a new line of 4×2 and 4×4 drive engines with the start of the production of Arkana, as well as offering modern communication services.
