Ford Sollers has ended car production in Naberezhnye Chelny


 

TASS.- Ford Sollers has ended car production in Naberezhnye Chelny plant, where it manufactured Fiesta and Ecosport models. Engine production has also been discontinued in Elabuga, as reported by the company press office.

It’s assumed that the company will have discontinued car production in Russia by the end of June. “Factory closure is a multiple stage process. Vehicle checks and their shipment will start following the end of production, as a preparation for full closure” – as reported.

As stated previously, Ford Sollers has announced its intention to discontinue car production in Russia by the end of June 2019, on March 27. The car plants in Vsevolozhsk in Leningrad region and Naberezhnye Chelny will be closed, alongside the engine factory in Elabuga, Tatarstan. An updated joint venture will be created on the basis of the previous enterprise between Ford and Russian Sollers, 51% of which will belong to Sollers. The joint venture will manufacture and sell Ford Transit light commercial vehicles. In the meantime, the company plans to maintain its dealer network in all Russian regions.
