The government will stimulate the development of the gas fuel market

Autostat.- The Russian government has issued a decree, which will increase the production of vehicles using natural gas fuel (CNG) as an engine fuel, as well as stimulating the development of refueling infrastructure. The document proposes the production of at least 2500 CNG vehicles, taking into account a federal funding in the amount of 2.5 billion rubles, as reported by the press office of Russian Ministry of Industry and Commerce. As stated, the move will enable the update of the municipal vehicle fleet in terms of environmentally friendliness and will give additional impetus to the development of the use of natural gas as an engine fuel.

As one may remember, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce has been implementing a programme on the support of the procurement of gas fuel vehicles, through which the sales of more than 14,000 vehicles have been subsidised within the last five years. As emphasised by the Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce Alexander Morozov previously, the Russian car manufacturers have mastered the production of the entire range of vehicles running on CNG with a high level of localisation, through the demand stimulation programme implemented by the Ministry. Out of the 6000 gas vehicles subsidised within the framework of the programme in 2018, Lada Vesta had the biggest share with 1850 units.
