AVTOVAZ has stopped the production of methane automobiles

Autoreview.- Avtovaz has sent out a letter to its official dealers, announcing the suspension of the production of Lada vehicles with biofuel engines, operating with methane. There are only two such models in the range of the factory: Lada Vesta sedan CNG, launched in summer 2017 and Lada Largus CNG vans and estates, which were put on the market last winter.

The discontinuation of production is linked with the termination of the EcoGas state programme, within the framework of which the government allocated subsidies for gas operated vehicle purchases. A discount of 115,000 rubles was available for gas operated Lada vehicles under the programme. For example, the minimum cost of the methane Vesta was 707,000 rubles taking the subsidies into account, as opposed to 677,000 rubles for the petrol version with similar equipment. However, the sales of the vehicles without discount for the full price of 822,000 proved to be problematic for Avtovaz, therefore the company decided to suspend production.

The re-equipment of the new vehicles was undertaken by the Togliatti Group of Companies ATS (Alternative Fuel Systems). The production of the gas version has already been stopped since October 1, and the renewal of production is not planned for 2019, in accordance with the information letter sent out by Avtovaz. However, the press office of the plant emphasises that the complete discontinuation of the production is not within the plans, promising the resumption of acceptance of orders for the upcoming period.
