Yandex will start tests on autonomous cars in the United States next summer

Reuters.- Yandex will start conducting tests on its autonomous cars in the USA next summer, as stated by the company.

Yandex will demonstrate the services of its driverless cabs in the business centre of Detroit within the framework of the International Car Show, which will be held between 6-21 June in the city.

“Initially, the visitors will be driven to the Car Show by 10 vehicles, which will remain in the country for further tests” – as told by a company representative to Reuters.

The autonomous cars fleet in Detroit will be created in cooperation with Hyundai Mobis. The companies have manufactured the first joint automobile on the base of the new 2020 model of Hyundai Sonata in July.

Yandex has been working on vehicles with unmanned technology since the end of 2016. The first prototypes of the automobiles were put on tests in spring 2017. Currently, the unmanned taxis can be tried on the test areas at Russian industrial parks in Skolkovo and Innopolis.

Yandex has received a licence for driverless vehicle trials in Israel at the end of 2018 and presented the unmanned automobile at the CES Exhibition in the United States in January 2019.
