AEB has responded to allegations concerning the possible exit of some OEMs from the Russian market

RNS.- Despite no statement has been made by the Automobile Manufacturers Committee of the Association of European Businesses – AEB as to the exit of one of the car makers from the Russian market as yet, such a possibility exists due to the tightening of requirements for the localisation of production. The relevant statement has been made by the committee chairman Joerg Schreiber, during the conference.

“I haven’t received such reports yet. There are no relevant news either. However, the probability exists. The tightening of requirements is not welcomed by some of the market participants. How the Russian government will react to the situation is the interesting part of the story. Well, let’s see what will happen. Also, the automotive industry seems to have dropped out of the list of priorities amongst national projects in recent years” – said Schreiber from AEB.

The Minister of Industry and Commerce Denis Manturov has previously drawn attention to the possibility of some of the car makers’ leaving the Russian market, due to the tightening of localisation requirements in production.

“I can not guarantee that all players will remain in the market. However, I can say that we have reduced the localisation points, in order to make the transition period as smooth as possible. Most importantly, the localisation process will not delay” – according to the minister, as cited by RIA Novosti.
