The Russian plant of Nissan may suspend production due to the Coronavirus

Vedomosti.- The production may be paused at the Russian factory of Nissan in March, due to the Coronavirus, as told by a company representative to Vedomosti. The suspension will be made, in case the Chinese car parts factories owned by the company shift to idle mode, the representative explained. The operations have stopped at the aforementioned enterprises, manufacturing components for car producers, including Russian automakers, due to the spread of the virus. For that reason, Nissan has already decided to suspend production at its Japanese plant between 14-17 February.

Other global car manufacturers have taken similar steps previously. “We will continue to give priority to the safety and well-being of our workforce in China” – as highlighted by the representative of Nissan. “In full compliance with the government orders and taking into account the situation of the epidemic and the circumstances our suppliers are in, we intend to resume production at Huadu and Dalian plants in China on 17 February at the earliest. The dates of resumption for other factories will be determined individually, depending on each plant and the schedule will be updated if necessary”.

No Coronavirus problems have occurred with the component suppliers manufacturing for the Russian plant as yet. The enterprises carry on supplying Nissan in the normal mode, the representative added. Nissan Qashqai, X-Trail and Murano models are manufactured at the St Petersburg plant. The annual production capacity of the factory is 100,000 vehicles.
