Volkswagen to suspend car assembly in Kaluga


MK Kaluga.- German manufacturer Volkswagen will suspend car assembly at its factory in Kaluga for two weeks. The suspension has been caused by the insufficiency of components from European plants, as stated by Volkswagen Group Rus press office on Tuesday the 24th of March.

“Due to the insufficiency of component supplies from European plants, Volkswagen Group Rus has temporarily stopped car production at its Kaluga factory, from 30 March to 10 April 2020” – as reported by the press office.

Assembly will also be suspended at the Nizhny Novgorod plant.

The period of production suspension will be graded as shutdown and the staff will be paid in accordance with Russian law and the local regulatory acts of the company.

“At the moment, we can ensure a stable supply of automobiles and parts to our dealers and clients” – the company added.

The Kaluga plant of Volkswagen has been operating within the territory of the Grabtsevo Industrial Park since 2007, manufacturing Polo Sedan, Tiguan and Skoda Rapid models. The enterprise has an annual production capacity of 225,000 automobiles. Approximately 4500 people work at the plant.
