Russian car market has declined by 72% in April 2020

RusAutoNewsCom. – As announced by the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee, Russian car market has decreased by 72.4%, or by 102,089 units year-on-year in April 2020, and amounted to 38,922 vehicles.

Thomas Staertzel, Chairman of the committee has commented: “After exceptionally high March sales in April 2020, dealer operations forced to be stopped or extremely limited with the Covid-19 related lockdown situation. With 72.4% sale decrease compared to same month last year, the Russian automotive industry experienced the strongest monthly sales decrease in the AEB statistics history. “Black April” 2020 strongly challenged dealer liquidity and mid-term even their sustainability. New reality forces all of us to try different creative communication and sales formats to stay close to customers. Dealers are preparing for restart, although I do not expect much better sales results in May.”

Lada was the most populer brand of the Russian car market in April with 9,396 units sold. Only 7 units Ford passenger cars has been sold within the aforementioned period. Hyundai sales has been dropped to 2,426 units in April 2020 in comparison to 15,379 units in April 2019.

Lada Granta was the most popular car model with 3,058 units sold in April.
