RusAutoNewsCom.- As announced by the company press office, Volkswagen Group Rus produced the 400,000th car using the CKD method at the GAZ Group plant in Nizhny Novgorod. The jubilee vehicle was a Skoda Kodiaq.

The CKD production of Skoda cars was launched in Nizhny Novgorod in December 2012, only one year after signing the agreement with GAZ to start contract manufacturing. At the moment, three models are produced at the location – Skoda Kodiaq, Octavia and Karoq.

Stefan Mecha, General Director of Volkswagen Group Rus, said: “I’m very proud of the products that leave the production line in Nizhny Novgorod – over eight years we have been producing cars that are not only extremely popular among Russian consumers but have been exported to various countries, including European markets, proving compliance with the highest quality standards of the Group. Deep production localization is one of the strategic goals of Volkswagen Group Rus in the Russian market, and we implement it consistently at all our production sites. It helps us to strengthen our position in the market, get production flexibility and also to contribute to the development of the Russian automotive industry.”

Vadim Sorokin, President of GAZ Group, added: “We appreciate the results of our cooperation with Volkswagen Group Rus. The production of Skoda passenger cars at GAZ facilities allows us to develop our business and provide jobs to our personnel. We are also happy that GAZ has proven to be a reliable partner, which has been consistently delivering cars of high European quality. We are sure that there are many more production milestones and successful joint projects in the years to come.”
