Sollers plans to launch the production of Ford Transit electric van in 2022

Sollers plans to launch the production of the electric Ford Transit in Russia in 2022, in parallel with the main diesel platform, as told by a company representative to Kommersant. Ford Motor has unveiled an electric Transit light commercial vehicle in November 2020, announcing the launch of production for the beginning of 2022. In the meantime, the United States has also revealed production plans at Ford Otosan in Turkey, aiming for the European market.

As estimated by Sollers, the share of electric vehicles in LCV sales will be around 1.5% in the Russian market in 2022-2023. The share is expected to rise to 4% towards 2025.

“We already observe demand for electric vehicles by certain clients: the e-commerce segment and the international companies operating in Russia, which use LCVs in urban transport” – as stated by Sollers. The usage of electric transport reduces operating costs, the company representatives added: “The electric Ford Transit is 40% more economical than diesel transit. The E-Transit has the benefit of 15-20% reduction in operational leasing payments, in comparison with diesel vehicles, in case of low rates of financing (3-5% in Europe)”.
