Car manufacturers have refused to supply automobiles to Russian dealers

RBC.-Audi, Volkswagen, Skoda, Porsche and several other car manufacturers have started to refuse making automobile deliveries to dealers. According to experts, the Russian automobile market may face a shortage of more than 40,000 vehicles this year.

Audi’s decision to suspend car shipments to its Russian dealers was announced two days ago. The German car manufacturer previously sent out official letters to partners with the explanation: “due to the difficult circumstances in all aspects.” Audi has promised to update its clients on the resumption of shipments and price issues in due course.

Volkswagen is one of the major car manufacturers, which temporarily stopped automobile supplies to its dealer network in Russia. The relevant decision has been officially confirmed to RBC exclusively earlier: “Due to the current situation, car supplies to the dealer network of the brand, within the framework of Volkswagen Group Rus, has been suspended until further notice. Volkswagen company has perceived the news on the situation in Ukraine with great concern and hopes for a swift end to the military activities in the country and a return to diplomacy” – as emphasised by Natalia Kostyukovich, the public relations director of the company, which includes Audi, Skoda, Volkswagen, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Bentley, Lamborghini and Ducati.

In addition, Volkswagen has to suspend car production in two factories in Germany, due to the shortage of components supplied from Ukraine.

271,000 Russian citizens have purchased new automobiles manufactured outside the borders of the company in 2021. According to the calculations of Autostat, the figure is equivalent to approximately 18% of the total volume of the market. If the car manufacturers continue to announce suspensions to supplies in the same pace as in the last two days, the representatives of the industry predict that the Russian automobile market will miss out on at least 40,000 car imports.

Meanwhile, all vehicles that have already passed Russian customs and are being prepared for shipments from manufacturers’ warehouses will reach dealerships in accordance with the previously generated documents.
