Russians began to buy Euro 2 standard new cars

Autostat.- For the first time in a long time, new cars complying with the Euro 2 environmental standard are being sold in Russia, as reported by Autostat.

According to their market research of June 2022, Russians bought 257 new vehicles of the Euro 2 standard. At the same time, they all represent the Lada Granta family, namely: 143 sedans, 75 liftbacks and 39 station wagons.

2008 was the last time mass sales of new Euro 2 vehicles were made in Russia. Earlier this year, the environmental standard Euro 5 was still in force in Russia, but on May 12, 2022 the government published Decree No. 855, which allows automakers to refuse to install a number of systems in new cars that are due to the unavailable are sanctions. The decree allows the operation of all environmental standards: from Euro-0 to Euro-5.

Russian automakers have already started producing cars with low environmental standards. On June 8, Avtovaz started production of a simplified version of the Lada Granta Classic, which costs 10-11% less than the previous ones. There are also plans to assemble more models in the summer; the Lada Niva Legend and Travel SUVs. Autostat is therefore certain that sales of the “Euro 2” standard cars will increase in the coming months.
