Russian car market has decreased by 52% in May 2020

RusAutoNewsCom. – As announced by the AEB Automobile Manufacturers Committee, Russian car market has decreased by 51.8%, or by 67,813 units year-on-year in May 2020, and amounted to 63,033 vehicles.

Within the January-May period of this year 478,135 cars were sold in total, indicating a 25.7% year-on-year fall in the market.

Thomas Staertzel, Chairman of the committee has commented: “Again this month we see a strong decrease in new vehicle sales by -51.8% versus May 2019, which is not a surprise because showrooms of Moscow, St Petersburg and most of the regional dealers continued to be closed the entire month. Workshops could re-start their operations and consequently customer traffic gained some momentum. We hope that with the recent release of the restrictions in most of the country June will show slight improvement of the situation and contribute to the sustainability of the dealer network. The implementation of first governmental support measures should contribute to a slow market recovery in the second half of the year.”

Lada was the most populer brand of the Russian car market in May with 15,580 units sold. Second and third spots are occupuied by the Korean brands Kia and Hyundai.

Lada Granta was the most popular car model with 5,726 units sold in May, followed by Lada Vesta and KIA Rio.
