RusAutoNewsCom.- Sollers Ford has announced the resumption of operations at its engine plant in Alabuga SEZ. According to plans, diesel engines will be manufactured for Ford Transit commercial vehicles at the factory. Mass production is planned for 2023.

The engine plant is established on an area of 42,600 km2 within the immediate proximity of Sollers Ford factory. The plant is installed with advanced and high-tech equipment, which complies with all global standards of Ford Motor Company, concerning productivity, environmental issues and safety.

The funds raised by the Industrial Development Fund will be used in the procurement of the necessary additional equipment for the machining of diesel engine cylinder blocks. The automation of production will be organised at the highest level, which will improve the quality of the manufactured engines.

“The decision to resume operations at the diesel engine plant has been taken within the framework of the strategy of maximising the localisation in engine production for Ford Transit vehicles in Russia” – said the chairman of Sollers Ford Adil Shirinov. “The aforementioned step will ensure the stabilisation of the business under the current conditions and strengthen our position as a vital player in the Russian automotive industry” – Shirinov added.

The production of Sigma 1.6 engines had started at the plant in 2015, to be suspended in 2019 along with the restructuring of the company. The factory became the first high-tech enterprise of its kind within the territory of the Russian Federation, where the automation level in production reached 95%.
