STELLANTIS has started diesel engine production in Kaluga


 

Vesti.- Stellantis, an alliance formed by the French PSA Group (Peugeot Citroen) and the Italo-American FIAT Chrysler Automobiles – FCA, has started the production of diesel turbo engines in Kaluga, as reported through a press release by the company. 

The production of the 1.6 lt turbo-diesel DV6 engines has been organised by PSMA Rus at the Kaluga plant, including casting, forging and machining of the key elements. The domestically assembled engines are aimed at both Russian and export markets. The test assembly phase conducted since February 2021 at the Kaluga plant has already been upgraded to mass production. 

The 90 to 116 hp, Euro-5 and Euro-6.1 turbo-diesel engines are installed into the automobiles manufactured by Stellantis: Peugeot Partner / Partner Crossway, Peugeot Traveller, Peugeot Expert, Peugeot 408, Citroen Berlingo / Berlingo Multispace, Citroen SpaceTourer, Citroen Jumpy, Citroen C4 Sedan, Opel Combo/ComboLife, Opel Zafira and Opel Vivaro.

“The launch of engine production at the Kaluga plant has become a major milestone in the deepening of localisation and the development business opportunities both within and beyond the boundaries of the region” – said Xavier Duchemann, the general director of Stellantis in the Eurasion region. 

Kaluga PSMA Rus factory currently manufactures 14 models from the brands under the umbrella of the alliance. PSMA Rus is a joint venture between PSA Peugeot Citroen (70%) and Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (30%), making car production since 2010. The factory has been manufacturing automobiles in full-cycle scheme since 2012, including the organisation of welding, painting and the final assembly. The enterprise has manufactured two sedans of PSA Group in the first stage (Peugeot 408 and Citroen C4) and the Mitsubishi Outlander crossover.
