Test drives of the autonomous truck Odyssey continue at the KAMAZ factory

RusAutoNews.- Test drives of the autonomous truck Kamaz 43083 continue at the Kamaz factory site, as reported by the company press office. Tests of the unmanned vehicle prototype has began in 2020. A truck without a driver is mastering the logistics of delivering cabs from a press-frame plant to the truck assembly plant. Nowadays the software of the car is being tested by the engineers of the Scientific and Technical Center.

The name of the project is “Odyssey”. This is one of the company’s steps towards creating vehicles for work in hazardous areas. An autonomous truck can be used in any sector where shuttle transportation is required along predetermined routes.

The vehicle is equipped with four types of sensors at once: “eyes” and other “senses” of the truck are replaced by video cameras, radars, lidars and sonars. The autobot has high-precision navigation with an error of no more than 3-5 cm, and a communication system: industrial Wi-Fi, 4G and a special emergency VHF band in case other communication channels are jammed. All data from the sensors go to the brain of the car – the computer, where the incoming information about the motion parameters is calculated. Based on this, a decision is made on how the truck behaves and how to perform the task correctly.
