SOLLERS will produce Chinese LCV under its own brand

RusAutoNews.- As reported by Vedomosti newspaper, Russian carmaker Sollers will produce Chinese JAC light commercial vehicles under its own brand, Vedomosti found out. This localisation will allow the company to participate in public procurement and receive benefits.

An agreement to amend the Sollers Auto special investment contract, which provides for the organization of the production of a new LCV line at a plant in the Alabuga Alabuga SEZ, was signed on September 7 at the EEF-2022. The enterprise will launch the production of cabover and semi-bonneted vehicles with a gross weight of 2.5 to 4.5 tons, according to the message of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

The agency does not indicate the name of future models. Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov only noted that the project will replace the suspended production of LCV Ford Transit in Russia, expand the model line on the market in this segment, and satisfy the demand for commercial vehicles from Russian consumers. The announcement also states that Sollers Auto will provide a “high level of product localization.” The start of production should take place in 2022.

According to the interlocutors, the Sollers Ford plant plans to produce a car similar in terms of weight and size to the Ford Transit and Mercedes Sprinter. The basis for this model will be JAC Sunray. The cabover van Sollers will probably be produced on the basis of the JAC-N25 / 35 model, which is similar in appearance and characteristics to the well-known Hyundai Porter LCV on the Russian market, oneof the sources says. Now these JAC models are produced in Kazakhstan at the Saryarka Avtoprom enterprise.

Both models are available on the Russian market. For example, the JAC Sunray minibus is offered with a 190 hp two-liter engine. With. and 15 seats for 3.75 million rubles, and a JAC N-25/35 flatbed van – from 1.9 million rubles.

This is not JAC’s first localization project in Russia. At the beginning of 2022, Kamaz launched the light truck Kompas, which is essentially a brand development of JAC Vans. The car was adapted to the operating conditions in Russia: elements of the chassis and electronics controlling the enginewere strengthened. Kamaz planned to locate the main components and assemblies of the novelty, including the cabin and its elements, as well as the Cummins engine, on the horizon of 5-6 years.
