Avtotor is preparing to release new models instead of Hyundai and Kia

Autostat.- The Avtotor plant in Kaliningrad will complete the production of Hyundai and Kia cars from the available stocks of components in early October and reconfigure production for new projects, which are scheduled to be launched in November.

This was stated by the founder of Avtotor, Vladimir Shcherbakov, noting that if the situation changes, the company is ready to resume contract assembly with current partners, the Kommersant newspaper writes. Recall that in addition to Hyundai and Kia, the plant in Kaliningrad also produced BMW cars, but their production was suspended in early March due to the geopolitical situation and the rupture of supply chains.

According to Shcherbakov, in 2023 Avtotor also plans to start producing electric vehicles and engines for them. At the new production site, the construction of 8 plants is being completed, investments in which will amount to more than 5.7 billion rubles (100 million euros).

As the governor of the Kaliningrad region Anton Alikhanov previously reported, in 2023 Avtotor expects to reach a production level of 50-70 thousand cars and increase output in the future. At the end of 2021, the Kaliningrad plant produced more than 177 thousand vehicles, which is 13% higher than a year ago.
