AVTOVAZ personnel have made a protest against layoffs

Interfaks. - Russian Federation Communist Party representatives and independent union members organised at AVTOVAZ factory have held a public demonstration against the layoffs, in Tolyatti. A union representative has stated their demands as a halt to layoffs and rise in wages, via Interfaks news agency. The representative has added that the average wage at the factory is 28,000 rubles. The union has announced the participation number to the demonstration as 500 workers. According to the Governorship of Samara, however, the number has only reached 200 people.

As one may remember, AVTOVAZ administration had announced plans to lay off 7500 workers until the end of this year, as part of austerity measures. One fifth of this figure is formed of administrational staff and the remaining number, blue-collar workers.
