Market share of Russian assembly foreign brand cars has amounted to 60%

Autostat – According to Autostat data, the share of Russian assembly foreign brand cars sales have amounted to 60.2% by the end of the first nine months of 2017. This is a record result in all the history of Russian automobile market.

The share has risen by more than two percentage points in comparison with 2016 (up from 58%). The share of local assembly foreign brand vehicles remained under 50% in the Russian market until 2014: 49% in 2013, 33% in 2010 and only 18% in 2007.

It should be noted that the foreign brand cars assembled in Russia has become the largest segment in the market, from being the smallest 8-10 years ago. The situation is completely opposite for imported vehicles, the share of which plummeted from more than half in 2008 to less than 18% today.

According to the director of Autostat: Sergei Tselikov, almost all leading foreign manufacturers have production facilities in Russia, preferential industrial assembly regimes or other incentives. At the same time, the rate of ruble, which lost value against all key world currencies, has made the direct import of cars less profitable.
