TASS.- The usage of autonomous automobiles on Russian public roads should be enforced by the end of September 2021. The issue is stated in the identification document of the national project: Safe and High-Quality Roads, published on the website of the Russian government.
According to the document, the concept of ensuring road safety following the participation of autonomous automobiles on public roads should be approved by September 2019. The technology for such process is expected to be developed by the end of 2020. The relevant laws for the usage of unmanned vehicles are planned to be established by the end of 2021, alongside the introduction of transport systems that will allow the usage of
unmanned vehicles in the first 27 stations. The route of autonomous automobiles will extend to 55 stations in Russia by the end of 2024.
The Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has signed a decree on the implementation of tests on driverless vehicles on the public roads of Moscow and Tatarstan in December 2018. The experiment has been extended to March 2022, the results of which will confirm the possibility of operating the autonomous automobiles on public roads, as well as the development of technical requirements and the necessary regulations and documents. The first automobiles may appear on the roads as early as Spring 2019.
The preparation of the resolution was carried out within the framework of the Autonet Scientific and Technical Institute working group, which includes car manufacturers, the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the Ministry of Transport, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the NAMI, alongside Yandex.
