Avtovaz predicts a slight shrinkage in the Russian car market in 2019

TASS.- According to Avtovaz forecast, the sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles will slightly fall in Russia in 2019, in comparison with the previous year. The relevant statement has been made by the chairman of the company Yves Karakatzanis during an interview with Russia-24 TV channel.

“The Russian car market has grown by 12.8% in 2018, being followed by a moderate rise in the beginning of 2019 and then started to shrink, due to the discontinuation of the government support measures” – he said. “What we foresee is that the market will be slightly below the 2018 figures for the entire year.” The chairman has stated that the situation of the market will depend on government support in 2020 to a large extent.

1.8 million cars and LCVs have been sold in the country in 2018, according to the AEB data. As previously stated by AEB, the Russian car market have shrunk by 1.3% year-on-year in August in Russia, with 145,500 units.
