RusAutoNewsCom.- Kamaz has started tests on driverless trucks. The first tests on the unmanned vehicle Kamaz-4308 have begun in the factory territory of the Russian manufacturer. The driverless truck will apply the logistics of deliveries of cabs from a press-frame plant to the vehicle.
The project for the transportation of components using robotic cars has been named as Odyssey. The journeys are currently limited to the roads within the perimeter of the industrial site of Kamaz. In general, the vehicles can be used in any industry where shuttle transport on specified routes is required.
Odyssey has been assembled on the basis of Kamaz-4308. The vehicle is equipped with four types of sensors at once: video cameras, radars, lidars and sonars. The robotic car is equipped with several communication systems: industrial Wi-Fi, 4G and a special VHF band in case other communication channels are jammed, as an emergency channel. All data will be transferred to the brain of the vehicle, a computer where the incoming information about the motion parameters will be analysed.
In addition, the test drives of Kamaz driverless trucks will soon take place in one of the Kuzbass coal mines. The vehicles are created for operations in hazardous areas. As told by the General Manager Sergei Kogogin, the knurling of the route will begin in Kemerovo and the company plans to offer the client a mining dump truck-drone for transporting coal and soil during uncovering operations subsequently.
