The share of foreign brand cars is falling in Russia

The share of foreign brand cars in total sales in Russia amounted to 72.8% within the first half of 2021. As stated by Autostat, the aforementioned indicator reached 74.1% during the same period of 2020, which exceeded this year by 1.3 percentage points.

The slower growth rate in the sales of foreign brand vehicles in comparison with the rest of the market during the aforementioned period has been shown as the reason behind the decline in the share. The sales figure for foreign brand cars amounted to 633,552 units during the six months period, according to AEB data. Although the figure indicates a 34% year-on-year growth, the Russian market has grown at a faster rate in total, by 37% with 870,949 units.

On the other hand, the sales of Russian brand vehicles have risen faster than the market during January-June 2021 period, by 44% to 237,197 units. Thereby, the share of domestically manufactured vehicles rose from 25.9% in 2020 to 27.2% this year.
