RusAutoNews.- As reported by the company press office, Stellantis Group plans to launch the production of FIAT Scudo and later other LCVs at PSMA Rus in 2022. In line with the strategic plans on the development of the production site in the Kaluga region, deepening of localisation and the growth of the local production volumes, Stellantis has announced new projects, which will enable the successful implementation of the strategy.
Stellantis already has a number of ongoing key production projects in Russia, namely in the Kaluga region and the production volume of the company has increased by 200% year-on-year within the first half of 2021.
The aforementioned projects include: a new platform for the production of Peugeot, Citroen and Opel mini and compact vans, the serial assembly of export-oriented diesel engines, which will be locally installed on Peugeot 408 and Citroen C4 models, Peugeot Expert, Citroen Jumpy and Opel Vivaro vans, Peugeot Partner, Citroen Berlingo and Opel Combo Cargo minivans, as well as the Peugeot Partner Crossway, Citroёn Berlingo Multispace and Opel Combo Life compact vans.
In accordance with a long-term development strategy in the Eurasian region and the expansion of business beyond its borders, Stellantis Group has announced the creation of an export hub to supply automobiles and engines to Europe, Latin America and North Africa. The first shipments will begin during the second half of 2021.
According to the results of last year, Stellantis Group became the leader of commercial vehicle sales in Europe. The sales of Stellantis brand vehicles is growing steadily in Russia in the LCV segment. With the birth of the Stellantis company and the expansion of the global brand portfolio, including FIAT Professional, the decision to localise the production of the export-oriented FIAT Scudo model at the facilities of PSMA Rus was taken.
The executive vice-president of Stellantis and the head of the Eurasian region: Xavier Duchemann has made the following statement: “We see a great potential in the Russian automotive market and our interest in the country will continue, gradually implementing the long-term strategy on the development of Stellantis both in Russia and the Eurasian region with the support of the governor of the Kaluga region and the government of the Russian Federation. Stellantis currently has 300,000 employees, 14 legendary car brands and more than 30 production sites worldwide. The PSMA Rus plant is a powerful asset that we plan to use not only for car production for the local market, but also to create a multi-brand export hub on its basis, capable of turning the Russian division of Stellantis into the leader of European car supplies. We’ll expand our model range in the next few years, localising the models of the FIAT Professional brand. Meanwhile, we’ll create 1000 new jobs in the Kaluga region this year, with the expansion and deployment of the production capacities”.
The production of the Russian assembly FIAT Scudo will start by the end of 2022.
