Interfax.- 450 employees of St Petersburg Nissan factory will be subject to dismissal, due to the transition to single-shift operation.
“We will switch to a single-shift working regime towards August, as a result of which, 450 out of 2000 employees will be laid off” - as reported by Interfax, quoting the press office of the plant.
Nissan had announced the transition plan to single-shift operation in March, relating the measures to the economic situation in the Russian car market. In the meantime, car production has been shrinking at the enterprise since 2019. The number of vehicles assembled at the factory has fallen by 7.4% last year, to 52,300 units. The sales figure of the Japanese brand has also dropped in 2019, by 20% to 70,000 vehicles.
St Petersburg Nissan plant was established in June 2009. X-Trail, Qashqai and Murano models roll off the conveyors of the plant. The annual production capacity of the enterprise is 100,000 vehicles.
